Vancouver Vignettes, Part I: "David Suzuki, Oh David Suzuki..."

One evening, many moons ago, my gentle buddy, Tanglewood, went for a stroll along a typically serene and rugged West Coast beach. In a fashion that is customarily Vancouverite, he carried with him only his well-worn guitar and a joint. When at last he found the perfect spot amongst ancient pines and the odd waterfront home, he settled himself on a log, jangled a few tunes, and set the instrument down to light his blunt. Recalling vaguely that a local icon was rumoured to live in the environs, he jokingly sang out, "David Suzuki... oh, David SU-ZU-KIIIII!!!"

"Yes?" A head appeared over the balcony rail of the house directly behind poor, mortified Tanglewood. "Did someone call my name?"

"Uhhhhh... Oh, uhhhh... I'm..." If possible, Tanglewood blanched a paler shade than his habitual moonglow.

"Hey," jovially cried the Patron Saint of Vancouver, Greenpeacers, environmentalists, and conservationists the world over, "I heard you playing. Come on up and play me some more, and let's smoke that thing together."

And so a brief, but meaningful, connection was borne between BC's Best over a spliff of BC's best.

The end.
