Please Vote for "Glamour Guts"!

It's hard to be a fan of Pearl Jam and not know band member Mike McCready is a sufferer of Crohn's disease, as well as a passionate spokesperson for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. But what does the disease look like to someone who has it, and how does one cope? And is it possible to keep it all Sexy and Fabulous without breaking an unladylike sweat?

Well.

Back in October, I wrote a loving post ("Why University Research Kicks Ass") about one of my favouritest people on the planet: Sageev, Chef Boy's best friend in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Along with being humbly genius, incredibly kind and disgustingly multi~talented, Sageev has a lovely sister who suffers the same ailments. A trained concert pianist and photographer who speaks four different languages, Jasmine (pronounced "haz~meen") is also a writer, director, and actress whose charmingly original short film ~ "Glamour Guts" ~ is up for an award from the CBC. (What the BBC is to Britain...)

Last night, we received the following missive from Sageev with a plea, which I've reproduced entirely without permission ~ but somehow I don't think he'll mind in the least. Please read on and, if you can, follow his voting directions so Jasmine can win the prize to fund her next film! We have until tomorrow afternoon to vote!!!

Cheers aplenty, me Mateys.

xxoo.

Hello Friends,

I hope the impersonal nature of a mass-email will be more than compensated for by the personal issues this email addresses (and apologies in advance for any duplicates).

I am writing to let you know two things:

THING #1.

1) Jasmine (my sister) made a short film last year called "Glamour Guts". It is a 3-minute film, based on over 15 years experience of living with intestinal disease. It's an autobiographical tragicomedy about how to stay Fabulous when you have a serious bowel disease. The film can now be viewed online at

www.cbc.ca/shortfilmfaceoff/films.html

and it's the one that has a cover picture of a woman eating a chicken drumstick while sitting on a toilet.

Please watch it; you might not have another opportunity to be so entertained by bowel disease. All in 3 minutes.

If you have bowel disease, you probably don't need to hear any further reasons.
If you know someone with bowel disease, you may also appreciate the light that this sheds on it.
If you believe you don't know anyone with bowel disease: your sick friends are just really good at being Glamorous, and you should watch this film ASAP to find out how they have been tricking you all this time. I'm serious.

THING #2.

2) This film is up for an award, and you can help achieve this by voting online, and by asking your friends to vote as well. The award will make it possible for Jasmine to produce her next film, which she has already written and will be an autobiographical tragicomedy about grief. Voting can only take place online during a very short period and has just started. It will continue until on Monday (JUNE 29, 5pm, *EASTERN STANDARD TIME*). Multiple votes count, and international votes count.

To vote, simply go to

www.cbc.ca/shortfilmfaceoff/

and vote for Glamour Guts if you enjoyed it.

Thanks for reading this, I really you hope you have the chance to watch this 3~minute film before Monday.

Sageev

PS. I did the music for the film.. a sort of cross between Chaplin and Chopin... Choplin.
