The value of art lies in its ability to make your heart hurt for its delicate balance of strength and fragility.
Seamlessly meshing the deeply romantic aesthetic of Pre-Raphaelite sirens with the hushed, dream-like fluidity of the Impressionists, this is the sublime underwater photography of Canadian artist Barb Cole. A self-taught photographer who quit high school to seek her bliss, she eventually rose to the ranks of fashion editor at the Toronto Sun. Most of the exquisite pieces shown here are featured in this month's Anthropologie catalogue.
For more on her work ~ as well as a mini-featurette on her process for this particular photoshoot ~ you can check out her glorious website. Somehow, seeing her ethereal water nymphs caught in kinetic, flowing grace is another sensory feast in itself.
