Portishead ~ "Roads" (from Roseland NYC Live)

A little while back, Tits'n'Gritts, BJJ Mastah, and their brood of wee ducklings came over for a lovely day of chat, food, drink, and music. One album BJJM urged us to check out was Portishead's Roseland NYC Live. Ever since that wonderful little impromptu party, "Roads" has been a constant and welcome guest in my head, evoking ridiculously potent and long-forgotten memories of a buddy's bedroom in a former diplomatic mansion in Ottawa, where I crashed for a few nights; I was there to visit a gaggle of old government work/study friends during the dark depths of a bone-chilling autumn. Every night of that stay, I remember falling asleep partway through a goblet of red while scrawling in my journal, all blissed out to Dummy and cozily bundled up in warm blankies on his floor-bound mattress... with clusters of candles and lava lamps for illumination. What a lifetime ago that was, and how amazing the power of music to so completely suck one's entire being into visceral timewarp.

Chris, thanks for the sweet memory, giving up your beautiful room, and gussying it up so pretty for me every night. And BJJ Mastah, merci buckets for the gorgeous trigger.
