Deckathea Painintheassis Consummatum

Oh, all the "finally's" we've been sighing lately in heartfelt relief.

Sometimes, it takes a little while to get settled in and address certain concerns you discovered when you first toured your prospective dominion and thought, "Hmmm... X looks a wee bit neglected, but is hale and hearty just the same. Shows promise and needs a little work, but certainly not a dealbreaker."

Amongst a few other key things, X ~ in this case ~ was our lovely, old, v-e-r-y weathered deck.

Fast forward approximately four hundred days and some eight ugly megalithic splinters temporarily embedded in the soles of shoeless offspring later; something eventually snapped. (Note to future self: Continuously pleading with said spawnlings to wear some form of footwear on crappy deck will invariably fall on fallow terrain, yet how many times can one hear the following and not haul some form of ass: "Mommy? Mommy? I got another big splinter in my foot, and it really hurts. Can you get your tweezers, please?")

Thus, over the course of many a skipped class, under the blazing late-July sun, and with the help of my wonderful Pops for the tedious rail-sanding and staining portions, Chef Boy and I saved a nice wad and did the danged job ourselves.

With minimal tan lines. And much cold beer.

And no more splinters for our cutiepies.
